What is Keyword?
A keyword is defined as the most important word, term or key phrase used to indicate the location of any hidden documents stored in the information retrieval system of the search engine database.
The words “hidden document” and the “most important” highlighted below are what drives everyone crazy on the web today. The ability of a web document to present that missing information in a beneficial way is the greatest potential any web page could have. This gesture marks the beginning of any website visibility, authority and a consistent ranking in the SERPs.
Keyword is the crucial contributing factors to website visibility which helps ensure your website is ranked well in the search engines, but guess what! it could be excruciating and painful if proper approach and technical expertise are left out when pitching the right terms for your business.

Guides for Choosing Keywords
- Collect all your keywords and group them in order of relevance, the collected keywords should include those of competitors.
- Create a basic comparison table to differentiate between valuable quantitative(search term with high volume) and qualitative keywords (costly index term) .
- Filter and find out if those selected are relevant to specific page of concern.
- Infuse the screened term within the required location of the web page, don’t forget the HTML power tags.
- Watch out for stop words and avoid it at all cost in your keyword variation, stop words such as a, an, the, and, or, how, where, if, while, free, E-mail, when, but. These words are useless and serve no purpose in keywords visibility and usually ignored by search engines.
- Plug your keywords within tags, text, images, and links.
- Keyword density(KD) must be kept below minimum usually between 7 to 10 percent in each web page. KD measures the frequency of keyword occurrence per page versus the number of words on a page. For instance, if you have 2000 words of text in a single web page, and your KD (keyword density) shows on that page 20 times, then your keyword density will be (20 /2000) indicating 1 percentage of KD is found on that page.
